Lazio vs Rennes: match preview, expected lineups & prediction

Lazio vs Rennes: Match Preview

Tomorrow night Lazio will be looking to kick-start their Europa League campaign as the side welcome Rennes to the Stadio Olimpico. Inzaghi’s men started their Europa League group with a surprise 2-1 defeat to Cluj, however their performances of late has dramatically which is reflected in their results, winning two of their three matches.

Rennes on the other hand drew 1-1 with Celtic in their group opener. The French outfit are winless in their last six matches, a run which has seen them pick up four draws and two defeats. The French side haven’t conceded more than once in any away match this season, which indicated that this game could well be a low scoring game.

Lazio have a clean bill of health heading into Thursday’s Europa League encounter with Rennes, Adam Marusic missed Lazio’s Europa League opener through suspension but is now available for the Serie A outfit if he is required. Gerzino Nyamsi and Jakob Johansson are both ruled out for Rennes through injury.

Lazio vs Rennes: Expected Lineup

Lazio vs Rennes: Expected Line-UP

Lazio look set to make wholesale changes to the side which impressively defeated Genoa on the weekend. Simone Inzaghi opted to test the above formation/personnel on Wednesday morning in the clubs final training session prior to the game.

His decision should come as no surprise to fellow Laziali, Inzaghi will be confident that the selected squad have what it takes to break down the Rennes side and have enough about them to close the game out, Serie A clearly the priority for the club and rightly so.

Rennes: Salin, Morel, Silva, Gnagnon, Traore, Tait, Bourigeaud, Martin, Grenier, Raphinha, Niang

Lazio vs Rennes: Prediction

I am going to predict this one finishing 1-0, I think it will take the squad a little time to build themselves into the game considering the amount of changes which look likely to be made. If Lazio are looking to progress into the knockout stages of the competition then they should be looking to win ALL the home games in this competition, which should put them in a good place.

Prediction: Lazio 1-0 Rennes
